With the desire to share difficulties and contribute to health care for people in the highlands, the medical team of Dai Nam University (DNU) "marched" to Po Ly Ngai commune, Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province to examine and distribute free medicine. This practical action not only helps improve the health of the community but is also a valuable opportunity for teachers and students to practice medical skills, foster love for the profession and a sense of responsibility to protect public health.

The activity of examining and providing free medicine to people in Po Ly Ngai commune is part of the Green Summer 2024 campaign organized by Dai Nam University Youth Union.

This is an annual activity of the Faculty of Medicine to help students practice skills and medical ethics through a training program closely linked to practical practice, directly connecting with patients. This year, this practical and meaningful activity takes place over 3 days, from July 24 to 26, 2024.

Associate Professor, Dr. Hoang Duc Hanh - Head of the Faculty of Medicine said: "This trip is not only a concern of doctors for people's health but also a valuable opportunity for students to practice and fight. Only by going deep into reality can students truly sympathize with the people and understand the great role of doctors. From there, they will strive and make efforts to become doctors with good expertise, good medical ethics, dedicated and visionary in the future."

More than 200 people received free medical examination

The Medical Team of Dai Nam University examined and screened 238 people in Po Ly Ngai commune, Hoang Su Phi district, Ha Giang province for respiratory, digestive, cardiovascular, musculoskeletal, ear-nose-throat, maxillofacial, surgical, obstetrics and gynecology, and dermatology diseases.

Many acute diseases such as arthritis and respiratory infections were detected and timely treatment was advised. Some diseases related to thyroid, nerves, spine, uterine fibroids, etc. were also advised by doctors to be transferred to a higher level for in-depth examination.

Associate Professor, Dr. Tran Cong Hoa - Head of the Interdisciplinary Department of the Faculty of Medicine, Dai Nam University - former Vice Director of the Central Institute of Otorhinolaryngology directly examined and cleaned the ears, nose and throat of the people of Pu Ly Ngai commune.

In particular, obstetricians performed general ultrasound, cervical cancer screening and collected samples for cervical cancer screening for 83 high-risk women. This is a service that local health care facilities do not have the conditions to provide, providing more comprehensive health care for the people.

At each examination table, teachers both teach practical knowledge and guide students in practicing medical examination and health care consultation for people.

Regularly practicing at the school's Preclinical Practice Center and interning at major hospitals, medical students are very proficient in the skills of asking questions, examining, providing health education and using professional medical equipment.

More than 200 gifts were given to people

During the charity trip, the medical team presented 208 gifts including instant noodles, cooking oil, MSG, etc. to poor households in Po Ly Ngai commune. All the money raised came from the cooperation and support of teachers, parents and students.

Practical gifts can share and help with some of the difficulties that people are going through.

Donated medical equipment with a total value of over 200 million VND

The Medical Delegation of Dai Nam University also donated medical equipment and medicine worth more than 200 million VND to Po Ly Ngai Commune Health Station, contributing to improving the quality of medical services in the locality.

Great harvest of teachers and students

Dr. Vu Dinh Nam - Lecturer of the Faculty of Medicine shared: "Through the trip, I have accumulated many valuable experiences that can be applied to practical work; I have more sympathy and admiration for young doctors and teachers who have gone to work in the highlands. From there, I remind myself to study, strive and contribute more to community health care work."

Ngo Tran Quoc Thang – class YK 17.02 expressed: “The volunteer trip can broaden my vision of social issues, better understand the circumstances and needs of the community. The trip helps me appreciate what I have and respect those who are facing difficult circumstances. This helps to nurture more compassion and empathy in me”.

Tran Mai Phuong - class YK 16.01 said: "The practical work experiences in Ha Giang have helped me better understand the screening and treatment process of common diseases, thereby improving my ability to practice and respond quickly in specific medical situations."

The volunteer trip of the Dai Nam University Medical Group has ended, leaving behind profound memories and lessons for the “future doctors”. Dai Nam University will continue to organize many more meaningful trips like this, creating more opportunities for students to gain practical experience and develop medical ethics.
