English Language Lecturer at Dai Nam University approaches international teaching methods with foreign experts

With the aim of innovating and improving the quality of training; innovating the method of exploiting, using documents, teaching towards approaching international teaching methods for the teaching staff; recently, the English Language Department of Dai Nam University organized a workshop on exploiting and using original documents (Authentic Material) in teaching with Mr. David Persey - an expert consultant on academics and English teacher training with more than 30 years of experience.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long - Head of the English Language Department said: English is one of the important subjects for students. In the period of international integration, English is no longer a foreign language but a job opportunity, the competitiveness of students in the domestic and foreign labor market; determining income and quality of life.

Understanding that importance, the English Language Department of Dai Nam University constantly innovates and improves the quality of teaching. Lecturers are continuously trained to improve their qualifications, access and master modern and international teaching methods that closely follow training trends and learners' learning needs; increase learning efficiency, help learners confidently communicate and be creative in learning foreign languages.

Workshops to improve qualifications with foreign experts are regular activities of teachers of the English Language Department of Dai Nam University.

“Through the workshop with experts, teachers will acquire knowledge and teaching methods from experts to apply to teaching at school, helping students to proactively research, actively improve their English and be more confident in communication,” Dr. Nguyen Thanh Long shared.

Specifically, expert David Persey introduced to teachers of the English Language Department how to exploit original documents from many different sources, such as: Books, Videos, Podcasts, Vlogs... Apply flexibly according to each topic, suitable for each teaching content in class. In addition, the expert recommended that teachers should promote and improve learners' English ability by using the methods of Creativity, Collaboration, Critical Thinking, and Communication.

After the workshop, teachers of the English Language Department had new and diverse perspectives on the methods of exploiting and using academic documents. From there, they applied them to their lectures in class, helping students access original documents, easily grasp knowledge, have the skills to apply theory to practice, use language naturally; inspire and motivate learners.

Commenting after the workshop, expert David Persey said: “I am impressed by the enthusiasm, youthfulness and diligence in improving the expertise of the English Language Department of Dai Nam University. You are excellent warriors in the work of spreading English to students throughout the school.”

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Oanh – Lecturer of English Language Department shared: “The training session with foreign experts was really useful and effective. We not only improved our level, methods of exploiting documents, teaching, connecting and interacting with students, but also got inspired to teach; increased our love for the profession and foreign languages…”

In the coming time, the English Language Department will continue to organize seminars with foreign experts, send staff and lecturers to experience real life, and train at enterprises to improve their qualifications, innovate training methods, and create motivation and inspiration for students to study; aiming for the goal of "100% of Dai Nam University students graduating with solid expertise, good skills, proficiency in foreign languages, qualified to become global citizens, have good jobs and attractive incomes".
