How to "handle" a super economical "student meal"

“Student Meal” is a practical project for the subject of Basic Soft Skills. Through this activity, students not only demonstrate their cooking skills but also hone their financial management skills, adapt to changing circumstances and environments, etc. This is one of the creative and innovative forms of testing, suitable for the learning ecosystem of Dai Nam University - “Say no to exam pressure with diverse and flexible testing and assessment forms, suitable for the learners’ abilities and practical requirements”.
In this practical project, students have to go to the market, cook, bring their work to class to receive comments and receive points from teachers. Accordingly, each group's budget will be equal to the number of members multiplied by 20,000 VND. Usually, each group has about 7-10 people.
Within their financial limits, groups must ensure the criteria of Delicious - Nutritious - Cheap; at the same time, the amount of food must be enough for all members. With this challenge, students will learn and practice the skills of balancing, managing finances, and adapting to environmental changes.
Students excitedly "show off" the meal they made themselves.
The entire process of shopping, processing and cooking is videotaped and edited into a vlog. This forces all members to “roll into the kitchen”. There is absolutely no way for one person to do it so that the whole team can get points. By working together and enjoying together, students not only learn teamwork skills but also bond and increase camaraderie.
Sharing the idea of this special test format, Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy - Head of the Department of Training and Soft Skills Development said: "Most of the students are young people living far from home, depending on family allowances, always having to balance between rent, food, living expenses... Through this practical project, we both train students in necessary skills and suggest them economical meals that are still delicious and nutritious, especially ensuring food hygiene and safety".

The practical project “Student Meal” is one of the unique and creative forms of testing of the Faculty of Soft Skills Training and Development, Dai Nam University. During the study process, students also practice profile design, participate in Soft Skills Training Camps, etc. Through this, students are trained in the necessary skills for life and work in the future.
