University Admissions 2023: Things to note to avoid unfair failure

In 2023, candidates will register for university admission by major instead of by method. In addition, the time to know the benchmark score and enroll will be one month earlier than last year.
Shorten the application time
Regarding new information in the 2023 enrollment season, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training (MOET), said that this year, the MOET plans to maintain the university enrollment work as stable as last year. The Ministry continues to deploy online enrollment work, on the common system.
The Ministry also upgraded the system to create the most favorable conditions for candidates in registering for admission; candidates register for admission on the System according to the admission code/industry; strengthen inspection, examination and handling of violations (if any).
A new point that candidates should pay special attention to is that this year, the time to register for admission is shorter - within 20 days - instead of one month like last year.
Specifically, candidates for direct admission and priority admission need to submit their applications before 5:00 p.m. on June 30, receive results before July 5, and confirm their admission on the Ministry of Education and Training's admission system before 5:00 p.m. on August 15.
Adjusting priority policies from 2023
From 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training will change the way priority points are calculated in university admissions.
Specifically, priority points for candidates with a total score of 22.5 or higher (when converted to a score on a 10-point scale and the maximum total score of 3 subjects is 30) are determined according to the following formula:
Priority points = [(30 – Total points achieved)/7.5] × Priority points according to regulations.
With the above formula, a student in region 1 who scores 22.5 or less will receive 0.75 regional priority points. But if the same candidate scores 27 points, the priority points will only be 0.3; if he scores 29 points, he will only receive 0.1 regional priority points.
These adjustments are intended to ensure fairness among candidates in admissions. Candidates will be considered fairly, based on their abilities, strengths, and capacities, especially when applying to highly competitive training institutions that require high-quality input sources.
It is not necessary to take too many separate exams.
In the 2023 admission season, more than 10 units announced that they will organize aptitude tests, thinking tests, etc. (separate tests) for university admission. Hundreds of universities will use these results for admission to improve admission quality.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy, Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training, said that organizing separate exams is an opportunity for schools to autonomously enroll students according to the Law on Higher Education. For students, registering to attend independent exams will increase the chance of admission by other methods.
However, to organize independent exams, educational institutions must comply with the provisions of current admission regulations.
With the increase of separate exams, many candidates are confused in the selection process. Regarding this issue, Ms. Thuy recommends that candidates should only choose and participate in 1-2 separate exams.
"The purpose and requirements of each exam are different, so the structure, format, organization, time, and location of the exam are also different. Therefore, candidates should not register for many separate exams because it may not be in line with the admission orientation" - Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Thu Thuy said.
The Director of the Department of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Training also emphasized that currently, most schools and majors have quotas for admission based on high school graduation exam scores. Therefore, if students focus all their efforts on doing well in the exam, they will have a great chance of being admitted to their desired destination.
