10 things candidates need to know about the 2018 national high school exam

The 2018 national high school exam and admissions basically remain stable as in 2017, but there are some adjustments that candidates need to remember.
On the afternoon of April 1, speaking with Tuoi Tre, Associate Professor Dr. Tran Van Nghia - Deputy Director of the Department of Quality Assurance, Ministry of Education and Training - said that the national high school exam and admission in 2018 will basically remain stable as in 2017, but there are some adjustments that candidates need to remember.
Specifically as follows:
1. The scope of this year's exam questions, in addition to the grade 12 program, also includes questions from the grade 11 program.
2. Exam scores are rounded to two decimal places: in 2017, only exam scores and multiple-choice tests were rounded to two decimal places, while in 2018, this regulation applies to all exams and tests.
4. Candidates who have graduated from secondary school and are taking the graduation recognition exam must have a high school transcript or a high school continuing education transcript.
5. The time between two components of the combined exam is shortened: in 2017, the time for distributing the exam papers was 10 minutes, the time for collecting the exam papers was 10 minutes; in 2018, the time for distributing the exam papers and collecting the exam papers were both 5 minutes.
6. Add reservation conditions for combined exams and component subjects of combined exams.
7. Additional subjects for direct admission and priority admission are: a) Candidates who win official prizes in international art competitions on fine arts are directly admitted to majors according to the regulations of each school; b) Candidates who win official prizes in official national professional art competitions on fine arts are given priority admission according to the regulations of each school; c) Candidates who win one of the first, second, or third prizes in ASEAN regional vocational competitions and international vocational competitions, if they have a high school diploma or intermediate diploma, have studied and passed the required amount of high school cultural knowledge according to the regulations of the law, will be directly admitted to the school to study the major or profession suitable to the profession in which they have won the prize.
8. Adjusting regional priority scores in admission: from 2017 onwards, the difference in priority scores between two consecutive regions is 0.5 points, in 2018 it is 0.25 points.
9. Change in the method of calculating admission scores: in 2017, the admission score is the total score of the three subjects (tests) of the admission combination rounded to 0.25 plus the priority points. In 2018, the admission score is the total score of the three subjects (tests) of the admission combination plus the priority points and rounded to two decimal places.
10. The Ministry does not regulate the threshold for ensuring input quality for most majors, except for pedagogy. However, schools must publicize the input quality threshold before candidates adjust their registration for admission.

4 notes to limit errors
The first is the use of identity cards. According to regulations, identity cards are used when registering for exams, registering for preliminary selection and registering for aptitude tests. Candidates should note that they must use a single identity card so that they can later link their exam results, preliminary selection results and aptitude test results (if any).
The second is the use of accounts and passwords to access the system. By providing accounts and passwords, candidates will be able to access the system regularly to check their exam registration and admission information to ensure there are no errors. However, many candidates do not know or pay attention to this. If they have not received an account and password after registering for the exam, candidates must contact the registration reception point to get them.
Third is the declaration of priority, especially priority admission, candidates must pay close attention to declare accurately, if not sure, they must ask the school or the department to get a thorough answer. In 2017, there were many cases of incorrect declaration and upon admission, the university discovered the incorrect declaration leading to loss of study opportunities.
Finally, pay attention to the selection of schools, majors, and the reasonable arrangement of wishes. Candidates need to understand the regulations in admission such as: no limit on the number of wishes; wishes are ranked in order of priority; when one wish is accepted, the next wishes are not considered and all wishes are considered equally.
