Dai Nam University launches "say no" week to plastic bags and single-use plastic products

In order to educate awareness, raise responsibility for environmental protection among staff, lecturers and students; deeply spread the message of joining hands to protect the environment in the community; continue and maintain the success of the traditional Camping program "Youth with green living 2019", Dai Nam University launched "Dai Nam University Week "say no" to plastic bags and single-use plastic products".

Statistics show that every year, the world discharges 300 million tons of plastic waste, nearly 1/3 of the plastic bags used by humans are not collected and treated. Currently, there are more than 9.1 billion tons of plastic waste accumulating on Earth. On average, every minute the world consumes 1 million plastic bottles... Alarmingly, Vietnam is one of the 5 countries with the most plastic waste discharged into the ocean in the world. Plastic waste and plastic bags discharged into the environment are increasing exponentially. They are destroying the living environment of humans and the animal world, especially marine life, every day and every hour...
Sharing about the “Week of saying no to plastic bags and single-use plastic products”, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa – Vice Principal, Head of the Movement Department, Dai Nam University said: “The above statistics may not make many people startled and scared, because everyone thinks it is far away, it “leaves us out”. However, plastic waste and plastic bags are the leading factors causing environmental pollution, affecting human life, ecosystems… and the socio-economic development of each country in the world every day and every hour. Each person needs to be responsible in the fight against white pollution and save their own lives…”

Accordingly, the week of saying no to plastic bags and single-use plastic products of Dai Nam University will be officially deployed from May 12-19 on a school-wide scale. The contents of the week include: The whole school will launch a campaign to spread the message "say no to plastic bags and single-use plastic products" to the community through sharing the content of hand-drawn posters rich in emotions and messages; the staff, lecturers, employees and students in the school will minimize the use of plastic bags and single-use plastic products at school as well as at their place of residence. Specifically:
On the morning of May 11, the whole school launched a campaign to spread messages to the community at intersections on the road from Nga Tu So - Ha Dong, including: CoopMart Ha Dong intersection; Big C Ho Guom Plaza intersection; Ha Dong Post Office intersection; Ha Dong Stadium intersection and Khuat Duy Tien - Nguyen Trai intersection. At these locations, Dai Nam teachers and students will use banners, streamers, slogans and slogans to propagate environmental issues with the aim of raising people's awareness in protecting the environment. It is worth noting that these propaganda contents were conceptualized and designed by the school's staff, lecturers and students.
From May 12 to May 19, lecture halls, canteens, dormitories, schoolyards and living areas of staff, lecturers and students strictly implemented the maximum restriction of the use of plastic bags, replacing plastic bags with paper bags or environmentally friendly cloth bags, not using plastic straws but instead using bamboo straws, stainless steel straws. Staff, lecturers and students actively brought personal water bottles to use instead of using disposable bottles, brought bowls, chopsticks, food containers to replace foam boxes, plastic bags and disposable plastic food containers. At the same time, staff, lecturers and students in the whole school proactively sorted reusable waste into waste sorting bins...
MSc. Nguyen Thi Thuy - Secretary of the Youth Union of Dai Nam University said: "With meaningful messages such as: "Using paper bags is to see the future", "Using plastic bags is uncultured"; "Convenient for 1 second - harmful for a hundred years", "Limiting the use of plastic bags and disposable plastic products is to protect the environment", "Stop letting plastic waste continue to destroy your life"... and serious "say no" activities to plastic bags and disposable plastic products carried out synchronously and systematically throughout the whole school, the environmental communication program saying no to plastic bags of Dai Nam University will contribute to spreading the message of environmental protection in the community".
