Review ensures differentiation and adherence to the subject
Pham Van Dong High School (Phu Yen) has planned to organize review and prepare for this exam. According to Mr. Chau Lot - Principal, the plan emphasizes the requirement for professional groups and teachers to develop plans, compile review outlines, ensuring that they are suitable for students' registration of elective subjects; organize review and tutoring for 12th grade students in the spirit of assessment at 4 levels: recognition, understanding, application and high application, ensuring differentiation, close to the subjects, meeting the requirements of the 2015 National High School Exam.
Good and excellent students need flexible review time and increased self-study with guidance from subject teachers.
The tasks are specifically assigned to homeroom teachers and professional groups. Specifically, homeroom teachers, subject teachers and school departments are responsible for preparing and checking the national high school exam application files of grade 12 students to ensure they are valid, accurate and complete according to current regulations and preparing exam data according to the instructions of the Department of Education and Training.
The homeroom teacher of grade 12 proactively plans and coordinates with teachers of graduation exam subjects to group students in their class according to cognitive ability; from there, organizes remedial review in groups, by class or self-review with guidance according to the school's general plan.
Professional groups assign capable, experienced, and enthusiastic teachers to guide and review more for students with weak academic performance, and mobilize good students to support and help weak students grasp the basic and minimum knowledge and skills required for the exam.
On the school side, according to Mr. Lot, the plan should be agreed with students and parents to arrange a reasonable review time, ensuring students' health, effective review but not causing overload.
In case the school cannot arrange time and classrooms for review and tutoring for grade 12 students during regular school hours, the school can arrange teaching and learning on Sundays.
Guiding students to apply and choose review methods appropriate to the subject content is also emphasized.
Specifically: Combine guidance for students to self-study and self-review with group review and whole-class review. Combine self-assessment of students with testing and evaluation in study groups and testing by subject teachers; focus on collecting feedback on students' review results to make appropriate and timely adjustments.
"We have also agreed to organize a school-level mock exam in May 2015. To prepare for this work, the school's professional groups held a meeting to agree on compiling mock exams for 8 subjects (Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Literature, History, Geography, English) according to the Department's exam structure to post on the school's website for students to refer to.
In addition, the school also organizes a mock exam for the national high school exam according to the regulations of the Department of Education and Training, from April 1 to April 4" - Mr. Lot said.
Recruiting experienced teachers
To create conditions for schools to best implement national high school exam review, Phu Yen Department of Education and Training allows high schools lacking experienced teachers to train and review for national high school exams, to prepare a proposal to mobilize the number of teachers for each subject and send it to the Department of Education and Training for a suitable reinforcement plan.
Phu Yen Department of Education and Training will organize a national high school mock exam for the whole province in the direction of developing students' capacity, helping students prepare knowledge, skills, abilities and mindset before entering the 2015 national high school exam; thereby, schools will review and adjust teaching content and methods to contribute to improving the quality of high school graduation and the quality of university and college entrance exams.
The Department emphasized that this is a province-wide rehearsal to prepare for the national high school exam, so it requires schools to focus on human resources, facilities and have a specific implementation plan for each student, staff and employee of the entire school.
Extend review time to June 20
The review plan for the national high school exam was instructed to schools quite early by the Son La Department of Education and Training. Accordingly, the review period will end on June 20, 2015; meanwhile, the end of the second semester (completion of the teaching and learning program) will be on May 25, 2015.
Schools need to select dedicated, responsible and professionally qualified teachers to review for students.
According to Deputy Director of the Son La Department of Education and Training Truong Van Tham, in addition to requiring schools to have appropriate management measures, attracting students to participate in full review, students not skipping classes or skipping review, the Department of Education and Training also requires caution and seriousness in building review plans for students, ensuring content, curriculum, teaching methods and form of class organization, review time.
Along with that is the construction of a program distribution including a system of theories and exercises applied to classes according to students' abilities and level of understanding and comprehension;
Organize tutoring and review to improve students' results: students with weak scores move up to average scores, students with average scores move up to good scores, students with good scores move up to excellent scores.
The review class is organized in the form of non-formal classes, including students with the same ability and cognitive level, and the same learning level of the formal classes (the formal class is the class based on the roll call and score). The review schedule must ensure the compatibility between formal study, review and review time in June 2015.
Teaching method: Combine teaching methods to suit each class; do not teach knowledge greedily, organize teaching so that students can learn to the point where they are sure and know how to apply according to their abilities. Avoid teaching too much but students do not have any knowledge at all.
Like many other localities, this year, Son La also organized a mock exam for students. After students registered for their elective subjects, schools directed professional groups to unify the mock exam questions in the form of graduation exams and university and college entrance exams in 2014.
Due to the long review time, schools can organize 2-3 mock tests for students. After each mock test, it is necessary to mark and correct the students' test papers to point out the shortcomings in the students' test papers, helping them to correct and overcome them right during the review process.
Previously, at schools, propaganda work about the national high school exam to students and parents of Son La students took place in many diverse forms, such as through class meetings, collective activities and parent-teacher meetings with the motto of not letting students and parents panic and skip the graduation exam.
Schools also organize collective and extracurricular activities to advise students on choosing the 4th graduation exam subject (students' elective subject) to suit their abilities and strengths.
