How will Dai Nam University enroll students in 2 rounds of high school graduation exams?

“Dai Nam University has reviewed and counted the number of candidates from provinces and cities taking the second round of graduation exams who registered for admission to the school. The school will reserve an appropriate quota for these candidates to ensure fairness and bring the best learning and experience opportunities for them.” That is the statement of Dr. Luong Cao Dong - Principal of Dai Nam University about the school's enrollment situation during the 2020 high school graduation exam, which is divided into two rounds.
Covid-19 outbreak, high school graduation exam held in 2 rounds
The 2020 high school graduation exam will officially be held in 2 rounds.
At the online meeting of the Government Standing Committee with provinces and cities on Covid-19 prevention and control (August 2), Minister of Education and Training Phung Xuan Nha proposed a plan to divide the exam into 2 sessions. Accordingly, localities without high risk, ready for the exam, ensuring safety and security issues will organize the exam as planned on August 9-10. Meanwhile, localities with high risk, determined to be unsafe such as Da Nang, Quang Nam ... will organize the exam in the second session after the epidemic situation is better controlled.
Localities need to have a plan to organize the high school graduation exam to ensure safety and seriousness.
In response to this proposal, based on the dangerous and unpredictable developments of the Covid-19 epidemic, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has agreed to allow the Ministry of Education and Training to organize the 2020 high school graduation exam in two rounds as proposed. However, the Prime Minister especially emphasized that the Ministry of Education and Training needs to direct localities to have a plan to organize the high school graduation exam to ensure safety and seriousness, and that university and college admissions take place in accordance with the provisions of law, ensuring fairness, transparency and quality of recruitment sources.
How will Dai Nam University recruit students?
Holding the high school graduation exam in two sessions is considered the most optimal solution in the context of the increasingly complicated and dangerous Covid-19 epidemic. The question is, how will universities recruit students?
Dai Nam University will base on the enrollment ratio of each region to reserve quotas for candidates from the region who have to take the second round of exams.
Sharing about this issue, Dr. Luong Cao Dong - Principal of Dai Nam School said: The main goal of the high school graduation exam is to consider graduation and admission to universities and colleges. In case of force majeure, the consideration of high school graduation can be completely based on the results of the transcript. However, according to the 2020 enrollment plan, universities all have plans to use the results of the high school graduation exam for admission.
In this context, to ensure fairness for candidates who have to take the second round of graduation exams, Dai Nam University will base on the percentage of candidates registering for admission in each admission region to reserve a quota for candidates in the region who have to take the second round of exams.
Candidates register to submit application for admission to Dai Nam University in 2020.
“Up to now, there are 2 localities, Da Nang and Quang Nam, on the list of candidates for the second round of exams. This does not affect Dai Nam's enrollment too much because this is not a key enrollment area of the school. We will review and count the percentage of candidates who have registered for admission to the school and must take the second round of high school graduation exams to adjust and allocate an appropriate percentage of admission quotas for candidates from Da Nang and Quang Nam after they have their high school graduation results, avoiding disadvantages for candidates who have to take the second round of graduation exams. Candidates who register for admission based on their 12th grade results can still submit their applications normally according to the prescribed timelines, however, their admission results will only be considered and recognized after they have their high school graduation results. ”, said Dr. Luong Cao Dong.
In response to the question of whether the graduation exam in two rounds ensures fairness for candidates, Mr. Dong affirmed that the structure of the exam in the two rounds ensures that the difficulty of the exam is similar, so there will be no disadvantage or unfairness for candidates who have to take the second round.
In the 2020-2021 school year, Dai Nam University will enroll 1,820 students in 16 majors in 4 training blocks, including: Health, Engineering, Economics and Social Sciences - Humanities according to two admission methods. Method 1: Candidates use the results of 03 subjects from the high school graduation exam results according to the registered combination for admission. The quality assurance threshold is publicly announced by the Admissions Council before September 3, 2020. For candidates who graduated from high school from 2019 or earlier, the results of the national high school exam are used for admission. Method 2: Candidates use the results of 03 subjects from the 12th grade high school results according to the registered combination for admission. For Medicine and Pharmacy, candidates must have a grade 12 academic performance classified as Excellent and the admission combination must be 24 points or higher. For Nursing, candidates must have a grade 12 academic performance classified as Fair or higher and the admission combination must be 19.5 points or higher. For the remaining majors: the admission combination must be 18 points or higher. In particular, in the 2020-2021 school year, the Board of Directors of Dai Nam University decided to grant Talent Encouragement scholarships to new students of the 14th course when registering based on the high school graduation exam score.
