If a candidate has a fever, does the entire exam room have to be moved?

Many people are worried that if a candidate gets a fever during the exam, will the entire exam room have to be moved to a backup room? The leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City answered this question.

On the afternoon of August 4, discussing preparations for the high school graduation exam in Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Education and Training, said that the Department has issued specific documents guiding the exam and Covid-19 epidemic prevention for the 2020 high school graduation exam taking place on August 9-10.

In particular, schools and localities are required to review and identify candidates in the F1 and F2 categories to arrange for them to take the exam in the next round in provinces and cities where the epidemic is taking place in accordance with the regulations of the Ministry of Education and Training.

In response to many people’s concerns, in the event that a candidate or an invigilator has a fever during the exam, how will it be handled? Will all candidates in that exam room have to change rooms, causing chaos and resulting in how much exam time will be compensated?

Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that the Department of Education and Training coordinates with the Department of Health to have all candidates and exam officials check their body temperature and health status before each exam. This issue must be checked before the exam.

If at that time, students have health problems, they will be isolated and tested separately from the beginning. Therefore, it is very difficult for students to suddenly cough or have a fever during the test.

If this situation occurs, the candidate will be taken to the medical room to check his/her health. If the candidate can continue taking the test, then a separate room will be arranged for the candidate to take the test, without affecting the general situation. There is no way to immediately disinfect and change rooms for all candidates in the exam room, as this will cause chaos and affect the exam score.

Exam invigilators are also screened in advance and have their temperature checked before entering the exam site.

In the case of an exam supervisor having an unusually high fever, Mr. Nguyen Van Hieu said that external factors such as sunny or rainy weather must be ruled out and the body temperature must be rechecked. If the temperature is really high, the supervisor will not be allowed to continue watching the exam. There will be a backup staff at each exam location.

According to the plan of the Department of Education and Training of Ho Chi Minh City, on the morning of August 6, all teachers assigned to inspect and supervise the inspection of the 2020 high school graduation exam will receive online training at the connection points of the Departments of Education and Training.
