The Daily Mail reported yesterday that 94-year-old Anthony Brutto, living in Morgantown, West Virginia, USA, will officially receive his college degree next week.

In 1939, Anthony applied to West Virginia University to study engineering, physical education, and industrial arts.

Then, when World War II broke out, he enlisted and served in the army for 3.5 years.

In 1946, Anthony Brutto returned to school, but only for a short time. His wife was seriously ill, so his university studies were interrupted. He took another leave of absence to take care of his wife.

From then on, he worked to make a living. Anthony Brutto worked as a mechanic in an aircraft factory in Cleveland before retiring in the mid-1980s.

Later, with a passion for art, he busied himself with his wood carvings of wild animals and jewelry. His works were very popular and were sold at exhibitions in Morgantown and in gift shops in Alexandria, Virginia and Chicago.

However, he always worried about not finishing his studies. “Graduation is very important to me,” he said.

So he decided to return to West Virginia University to continue pursuing his dream. Next week, Anthony Brutto will graduate with more than 4,500 other students.

Sharing his joy with ACB News , he happily exclaimed: “This is wonderful!”. His wife, Donna Brutto, could not hide her joy: “This is wonderful. After so many years of effort, he deserves to receive that degree.”

“Anthony Brutto is a shining example of perseverance and determination for generations of students,” said April Kaul, Vice President of West Virginia University.
