University Admissions 2017: Candidates register dozens of wishes

However, many people are still worried that if they do not think carefully, candidates may choose the wrong registration option, leading to being admitted but not wanting to study.
Education experts advise that instead of choosing too many options, candidates need to measure their abilities to register for majors and universities that suit their abilities and strengths.
According to information from many high schools and continuing education centers in Ho Chi Minh City, this year, the number of candidates applying to universities and colleges has increased dramatically. The highest group of candidates is from 3 to 6. However, there are still many cases of candidates applying for more than 15 university and college options. Independent candidates tend to choose more options than students in high schools.
Afraid of missing out on the chance to get into university this year, a student in District 10 decided to register up to 16 wishes for many different majors and universities. In addition to the universities and majors he really loves, this male student also filled the registration form with wishes that are easy to get into without considering his interests or abilities.
This student shared: “Because this is my first year taking the exam, I dare not choose too few. I choose many so that I can still get some of my wishes in. I arrange the high-scoring wishes at the top because this year the scores are taken from high to low. For the lower wishes, I choose schools and majors with extremely low scores so that I can have a school to study at, without having to waste time going to vocational schools.”

Nguyen Du High School this year has 313 grade 12 students registering their wishes to enter universities and colleges. Statistics from the school show that up to 35.5% of the students at the school choose from 6 to 10 wishes. Some students even choose up to 15 or 16 wishes.
Ms. Nguyen Thi Lan Huong, Vice Principal of the school, commented: “When students register for too many wishes, it is easy to get the wrong major code and the information they fill in the application form is easily confused. When they update online, they continue to make mistakes once again. This will cause a lot of trouble.”
The troubles that have occurred when the number of students who have to edit their records at Nguyen Du High School this year is not small. Therefore, to help students avoid unnecessary mistakes, the school has decided to extend the time for editing records as well as provide computer support for students to adjust information right at school. The fact that independent candidates register for many wishes also puts a lot of pressure on continuing education centers in data entry and checking records, especially in places with a large number of records.
Although they appreciate this innovation policy of the Ministry of Education and Training, representatives of many universities and colleges are still worried that the higher the number of applications each candidate registers, the higher the rate of fake applications will be. In addition, choosing the wrong major will also affect the quality of the candidate's future studies.
Therefore, Mr. Tang Huu Tan, Head of the Admissions Department of Ton Duc Thang University, advised: "Candidates should not be too ambitious in registering for too many wishes. Based on my own experience, students should consider the first one to three wishes, which will be more focused. If we let the registration field be too broad, their concentration will be diluted, leading to distraction."
Education experts recommend that, in addition to the joy of having more choices and more chances of admission, candidates need to consider carefully before signing up. Do not choose the wrong school or major because you want to get into university at all costs./.
