These figures show that the demand for human resources in Vietnam's tourism industry is huge.Tourism is on the rise in Vietnam
Vietnam has more than 40,000 relics and landscapes, of which more than 3,000 are ranked as national relics and more than 7,000 are ranked as provincial relics. Vietnam ranks 27th out of 156 coastal countries in the world with 125 beaches, most of which are beautiful. Vietnam is one of the 12 countries with the most beautiful bays in the world, Ha Long Bay and Nha Trang Bay.
Realizing that our country has very diverse and rich tourism potential: from scenic spots to Vietnamese people and culture, in 2001, Vietnam tourism was planned and oriented by the Government to become a spearhead economic sector.
Since then, the Vietnamese tourism industry has made great strides, bringing in huge revenue for the national economy. In particular, 2015 was considered the year of Vietnamese tourism when a film crew from ABC television - the world's largest media company - came to Son Doong cave (Quang Binh, Vietnam) to make a live television report for the program 'Good morning America'. As soon as it was broadcast, the world public was shocked by the majestic beauty of Son Doong cave - the cave recognized by the Guinness Book of Records as the largest in the world.
2015 also witnessed many Hollywood film crews coming to Vietnam to find filming locations for blockbuster movies, many famous foreign stars coming to Vietnam to relax, explore the landscape, cuisine, culture... This has contributed to promoting Vietnam's scenic spots to international friends, attracting hundreds of thousands of people around the world to book tours to visit Vietnam's caves. It is forecasted that by 2020, our country's tourism industry will attract 11-12 million international visitors; 45-48 million domestic visitors. Revenue from tourism is expected to reach 18-19 billion USD in 2020.
Tourism Human Resources: Supply Cannot Meet Demand
The rapid development of Vietnamese tourism has led to an increase in the demand for human resources in this industry. According to preliminary statistics from the General Department of Tourism, the number of workers in the tourism industry increases by 300-400 thousand people each year. Currently, this industry has about 500,000 direct workers and more than 1 million indirect workers. According to the forecast of the Institute for Tourism Development Research, from now until 2020, our country's tourism industry will need up to 870,000 workers. This proves that the tourism industry is a "fertile land" for Vietnamese workers.
According to the general assessment of the Vietnam Institute for Tourism Research and Development, the quality of human resources in the Vietnam Tourism - Hotel industry currently only meets the basic needs of the service industry in general, but has not yet met international standards. Especially in the high-end service sector - standards from 3 to 5 stars and above, Vietnamese human resources have not yet met the requirements in a highly competitive environment, and still lack global management skills and industry-specific value chain management.
Based on the practical demand for labor in the tourism industry, the Ministry of Education and Training has allowed Dai Nam University to open the major "Tourism and Travel Services Management".
