This certainly affects the floor score and benchmark scores of universities.

Master Ngo Thien, Head of the Math Group of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said that this year's exam scores clearly differentiated the candidates' level. Last year, candidates at 3 levels of average - good average - good were not clearly distinguished because the scores were concentrated at 6 - 7. This year, the exam was better classified, candidates with average academic ability only achieved 4 - 4.5 points in math, average good 5 - 5.5 points and good from 6 - 6.5 points. In the higher score segment, the exam also had more detailed differentiation, good candidates also had different scores from 7 to above 8, but from 9 - 10, they had to be excellent to achieve.

The spectrum is concentrated at 4 - 6

From the score statistics of the Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry exam cluster, Master Thien said that up to 45% of candidates taking the exam in this cluster had math scores between 4 and 6. Based on the similar score situation of other subjects, Master Thien said that the percentage of candidates with a total score of 3 subjects at 15 will be higher than last year. On the contrary, candidates with a total score of 3 subjects from 18 to 21 will decrease significantly.
Master Truong Tien Si, Deputy Head of Training Department of Banking University of Ho Chi Minh City, also made a similar assessment. According to Mr. Si, with the score range this year, the higher the score, the lower the number of students achieved compared to last year. Although there are not many failing scores, it is very rare for students to score 9 - 10, and there are even subjects with no score of 10. "Just counting the combination of math, physics, and chemistry, we can clearly see this decline. This year, the average score of each subject is 1 - 1.5 points lower, if calculating the total of 3 subjects, it will decrease by 2 - 3 points. This will definitely affect the admission scores of the schools," Mr. Si analyzed.

Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Dung, Principal of Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education, said that last year, many exams scored 7 points, but this year, the majority scored 5 points. Therefore, this year's exam questions are more differentiated, and the score range will certainly be lower. In addition, this year, the number of candidates taking the national high school exam decreased by nearly 20% compared to last year, of which the number of candidates taking the exam for university and college admission decreased. "This will lead to a possible decrease in the minimum score for admission. The minimum decrease could be up to 1 point compared to last year," Mr. Dung predicted.

Benchmark decreased from 1 - 1.5 points
Faced with this reality, representatives of many schools said they would reduce the minimum score for admission. According to Associate Professor, Dr. Do Van Dung, last year, Ho Chi Minh City University of Technical Education accepted applications with a total score of 3 subjects of 18 or higher.
However, this year the school may only set the minimum score at 17. According to Mr. Dung, the school's benchmark will decrease by 1 - 1.5 points depending on the major. Last year, the school's benchmark was multiplied by the coefficient of 2 main subjects, the major with the highest benchmark score was 31.5 (mechatronic engineering technology) and the lowest was 22.75 (fashion design).

Master Pham Thai Son, Deputy Director of the Admissions and Business Relations Center of Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, also commented that with this year's score range, schools or majors with last year's benchmark scores around the Ministry's floor level will not change. However, the benchmark scores will fluctuate with last year's group of schools or majors with an average score of 7 - 8 points/subject. If last year many schools had to use additional criteria, even many different criteria to recruit PhDs, this year these criteria may not be needed. As for Ho Chi Minh City University of Food Industry, it is predicted that the benchmark scores may decrease sharply. Specifically, the benchmark scores for majors from 17 - 20 (last year) may decrease to 15 - 18 depending on the major.

A university representative also acknowledged that the trend of a sharp decrease in benchmark scores may happen to many schools with scores at the floor level or a few points above the floor level in previous years.
Dr. Tran Dinh Ly, Head of Training Department of Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, said that the majors with high admission scores last year are likely to decrease slightly. However, for the medical and pharmaceutical majors, the admission scores are still very high because the difficulty of the exam, which is about 8.5 - 9 points for the two years, is still at the same level. As for Ho Chi Minh City University of Agriculture and Forestry, the admission floor score will remain the same as last year (17 points).
