The explosion of social networking platforms, especially Tiktok in recent years, has influenced the way young people receive information. Instead of searching for information on official channels (newspapers - television, websites, official fanpages of universities, etc.) to choose a major or a school, young people tend to "ask Tiktok" and "listen to Tiktoker". It would be dangerous if young people access information without selection or comparison, relying too much on personal opinions or imposed orientations that are rampant on Tiktok, leading to wrong decisions in choosing a career and their future orientation. So, what should we do to avoid being "fooled" and "trapped" by spontaneous "experts" on Tiktok like today?

Be alert to comments about "PRAISE" - "CRITICISM" about the profession on Tiktok

Just type “career consulting” into the search box, and a series of career consulting videos on Tiktok will appear. Notably, the videos with “huge” views are titled “List of the most useless university degrees in Vietnam”, “Three useless university majors”, “The most useless university degree in Economics”, “Useless Marketing degree”…

Faced with the fierce wave of public opinion, videos advising on this major also quickly “disappeared” on Tiktok. However, many students are still confused and ask: “Is this major really useless?”, “Should we continue to apply because this is our favorite major?”, “Will this major lead to unemployment after graduation?”…

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Lien - Vice Principal of Dai Nam University commented: “The reason these videos have achieved high interaction is because the Tiktok account owners grasp the time and psychology of students learning about their majors. The content of these videos is highly view-baiting, market-oriented, one-sided, and does not provide evidence or specific data on the employment status of students in these majors after graduation. However, it still causes confusion for candidates and parents...”

Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Lien added that it is undeniable that social networking platforms help candidates and parents to easily access and be more proactive in learning about majors and schools. However, with a multi-dimensional information network, candidates need to be alert and calm in selecting information channels and content; be careful with one-sided, misleading, and unfounded praise and criticism of professions from "fake experts".

Parents and students directly learn about the major at the Admissions Office of Dai Nam University.

Currently, universities all have websites to update official enrollment information. In addition, many universities also build communication channels on social networking platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok... so that students can easily access and learn fully and accurately about their majors, study programs, enrollment methods, learning and practice environments; internship opportunities, business connections, job introductions for students...

When looking for information on these official channels, candidates can also connect with seniors to ask about the school and the major. From there, candidates will have an objective view and make the right decision for themselves.

“Candidates should follow and learn about career information from official, reputable channels such as television stations, radio stations, reputable electronic newspapers, websites, fanpages, youtube channels, and official tiktok channels of universities. Take advantage of 1-1 consultation opportunities with leaders, lecturers, and consultants of universities at the admissions and career counseling programs organized by Tuoi Tre newspaper every year. If you live nearby, candidates can go directly to the Admissions Office of the schools for direct consultation or call the hotline number, text the school's fanpage to receive information and advice on the careers they are interested in...” Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Thi Lien noted.

At the 2023 Admissions and Career Counseling Festival, Dai Nam University consulted and attracted thousands of candidates to register for early admission to the school.
