Chung Cake Slice of Kindness of DNU: 13 years of sharing love and impressive milestones

The program "Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” - the "specialty" of Dai Nam University was established with a purpose of sending love to difficult circumstances in society, aiding students in fostering a spirit of mutual affection, and living responsibly towards themselves, families, and community. Throughout 13 years of  “sowing happiness, giving love”' the program has left many beautiful impressions within the community and society, progressively affirming its brand with significant achievements.

The "Chung Cake Slice of Kindness" program is one of the volunteer activities that has a profound influence in social community, contributing significantly to the branding of Dai Nam University.

15,000 staff,  lecturers, and students participated in the program

The “Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” program was first organized in 2011 and has now entered its 13th year. This is one of the meaningful volunteer activities that have a strong influence in the community and society, contributing to the fulfillment of Dai Nam University's mission of “Training graduates to lead fulfilling lives and become upstanding citizens”.

As a tradition, every Lunar New Year, teachers and students of Dai Nam University busily prepare the ingredients and personally make/boil/scoop the Chung cakes. Everyone feels joyous knowing that their contribution will bring the Tet celebration to those less fortunate in society.

Up to now, the "Chung Cake Slice of Kindness" program has mobilized more than 15,000 staff, lecturers, and students to participate in its execution.

30,000 Chung cakes were personally handed over to those in difficult circumstances.

By the year 2023, the "Chung Cake Slice of Kindness" program at Dai Nam University has raised over 3 billion VND, making nearly 30,000 Chung cakes, and gifting them to tens of thousands of less fortunate people in society.

Tens of thousands of Chung cakes have been gifted to those difficult circumstances in the society every Lunar New Year.

The extensive outreach on media press channels

This is evidence of the program's significant contributions to society, contributing to the spread of the spirit of mutual affection and compassion - a traditional beauty of the Vietnamese people. 

The program has a wide-reaching impact in the community and society, drawing attention from press agencies, especially Vietnam Television (VTV), dedicating ample time to participate in and report on the program during prime-time broadcasts.

The “Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” program at Dai Nam University has gained extensive coverage in the press.

Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice Chairman of the University Council, Vice-Rector, the person who initiated the program, feels delighted as “Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” increasingly solidifies its reputation, receiving recognition from teachers, students, and the community.

She expressed that “over the past 12 years, teachers and students at Dai Nam University have consistently supported this program. Despite modest salaries and the many challenges our students face, whenever Lunar New Year arrives, everyone desires to contribute a small part of their kindness and share it with those less fortunate. This motivation propels us to continue organizing more charitable programs like this, aiming to teach our students to live for others and the community…”

A Cake given represents the wholeheartedness and love of the teachers and students of Dai Nam University.

The experiences and significant lessons cannot be taught by any curriculum or lecture hall.

 

Nguyen Ha Phuong, a student from the Faculty of Pharmacy, expressed after four years of participating in the "Chung Cake Slice of Kindness" program: "The experiences and lessons we have gained from the “Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” program are immense, not found in any documents, textbooks, or lecture halls... The program helps us grow each day; it teaches us empathy, love for others, and appreciation for what we have".

“Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” program in 2023, Do Truong Son - from class YK 14.01, participated in giving Chung cake and Tet gifts to patients at Ha Dong General Hospital. He expressed his emotions saying, "While everyone is joyously busy preparing for Tet, the patients and their families have to stay by the hospital, lacking and feeling deprived. Sending gifts to them by hand, I felt a sense of fulfillment and appreciated the numerous moments of togetherness with family. It is also a reminder to strive in my studies to become a competent doctor in the future, capable of aiding patients to recover swiftly and return home to celebrate Tet with their loved ones…”

Tuong Son carefully delivered each piece of cake to the patients at Ha Dong General Hospital during the Tet holiday of 2023.

Nguyen Ha My, a student from the Faculty of E-commerce and Digital Economy, shared: "From a girl who had never made a Chung cake, never joined in bringing Tet to those in difficult circumstances, and never understood the responsibility of the younger generation towards society... after the “Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” program, I have experienced it all. I am confident that these are lessons beyond textbooks that not every student can get. I am grateful to the University for organizing such a meaningful program, allowing us to learn and develop ourselves fully."

Mr. Vu Dang Tuan Anh, the Secretary of the Youth Union of the University, shared: "I feel joy seeing the “Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” program growing stronger and more splendid. Through activities like preparing ingredients, and making/boiling/scooping the cakes, not only students but also the University's staff, lecturers, and officers cherish beautiful memories and meaningful life lessons, fostering a sense of responsibility towards the community. We will strive to expand the brand of “Chung Cake Slice of Kindness” of Dai Nam University even further."

The 13th edition of the "Chung Cake Slice of Kindness" program with the theme "Back to the Traditional Tet" is expected to take place on January 25-26, 2024, with a scale and quantity of Chung cakes and gifts five times larger than that of 2023.
