Dai Nam University co-organized a Japanese speech contest for students nationwide.

“Training combining theory with practice” is the training motto of Dai Nam University, which is thoroughly applied by the Faculty of Japanese Language and Culture. During the learning process, students not only practice and fight, but also connect and interact with students from universities and academies nationwide through highly academic intellectual competitions. The final round of the “National Japanese Speech Contest JLAN Cup – Test 6” held on August 4 is one of the typical events of that activity.
The “National Japanese Speech Contest JLAN Cup – Test 6” is organized by the Japanese Language Education Association for Non-Chinese Language Countries (JLAN) in collaboration with Dai Nam University (DNU). The purpose is to create opportunities for students studying Japanese at domestic training institutions to demonstrate their Japanese language skills; a bridge for candidates nationwide to exchange and connect.
This year’s contest attracted many contestants from schools: Hai Ba Trung High School - Hue; Foreign Language High School - VNU; Vietnam - USA College, Hanoi; Dai Nam University; Thang Long University; Van Hien University; Lac Hong University...
The 10 best candidates were officially "revealed" in the Final round.
Attending the Final Round, on the international side, there were: Ms. Okamoto Noriko - Second Secretary of Education, Embassy of Japan in Vietnam; Ms. Yamamura Yoko - Head of Japanese Language Education; Ms. Fujii Mai - Japan Foundation in Vietnam; Mr. Sakamoto Shigetada - Vice President of JLAN Association; Prof. Sukerou Ito - Tokyo University of International Education; MSc. Mizobe Eriko - Researcher on Japanese Language Training Institutions; Ms. Yoshidome Yoko - Head of Training Department, GAG Japanese Language Academy.
On the side of Vietnamese training institutions, there were: Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Hong - Principal of Dai Nam University; Dr. Vu Thuy Nga - Head of the Department of Japanese Language and Culture, Dai Nam University; Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen To Chung - Senior Advisor of GAG in Vietnam; Dr. Tran Thi Thu Thuy - Head of the Department of Japanese, Foreign Trade University; Dr. Nghiem Hong Van - Head of the Department of Japanese, Hanoi University; MSc. Nguyen Thi Nhu Thuong - Head of Japanese Studies, Lac Hong University; MSc. Nguyen Thi Hong Yen - Deputy Head of the Department of Oriental Studies, Van Hien University.
Bridge between Vietnam - Japan
Speaking at the program, Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Hong affirmed the importance of Japanese Language in the university training system in general and Dai Nam University in particular.
“Dai Nam University is extremely honored to be chosen by the JLAN Association for the second time as a companion to organize a national Japanese Speech Contest. We hope that this intellectual and useful playground will be a premise for young Vietnamese people to improve their Japanese language skills, accumulate knowledge and experience about the country, culture, technology and education of Japan. Dai Nam University students will promote well the orientation of application, start-up, innovation and creativity that the school has set out.”
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Van Hong delivered the opening speech at the Final round of the competition.
Ms. Okamoto Noriko - Second Secretary, representative of the Embassy of Japan in Vietnam highly appreciated the training, connection and international cooperation of Japanese language training institutions in Vietnam.
“You have a generation of talented and potential young people. They will play an important role as a bridge between the two countries in the future. I hope that all of you present here will help further develop the relationship between Japan and Vietnam in the future,” Ms. Okamoto Noriko shared.
Ms. Okamoto Noriko highly appreciated the Japanese Language training program at Dai Nam University.
Representative of the Japan Foundation in Vietnam, Ms. Yamamura Yoko - Head of Japanese Language Education Department expressed: "I look forward to hearing your thoughts and wishes about the future between Japan and Vietnam. Your presence today is not only the result of your efforts but also the teaching efforts of your teachers, the support of your family and friends. I wish your efforts will bear fruit."
Ms. Yamamura Yoko highly appreciated the Japanese language ability and eloquence of Vietnamese students.
Affirming the bravery, talent and love of Japanese of young Vietnamese people
Overcoming many strong competitors, the 10 best candidates entered the Final round of the "National Japanese Speech Contest JLAN Cup - Test 6". Here, the young people continued to affirm their talent and love for Japanese through a presentation no longer than 4 minutes and 30 seconds on the topic "Hope - Your envisioned future of Japan and Vietnam".
Solid professional knowledge and stage presence helped the contestants easily overcome the judges' questions; expressing their practical wishes about the relationship between Vietnam and Japan.
In the end, contestant Nguyen Tu Anh from Foreign Language High School - VNU won the First Prize of the contest. Second and Third Prizes went to 02 representatives from Hai Ba Trung High School (Hue). Contestant Bui Manh Hung - Dai Nam University won the Encouragement Prize.
Sharing after the contest, Bui Manh Hung said: “The Japanese Speech Contest is a great playground for me to improve my knowledge and practice my skills. Through the contest, I also connected and learned many useful things from friends who share the same passion for Japanese.”

Dr. Vu Thuy Nga - Head of the Department of Japanese Language and Culture, Dai Nam University shared: "I am truly impressed by the talent, intelligence, confidence and strong love of the young people for Japanese. In the 2023-2024 school year, the Japanese Language Department (code: 7220209) of Dai Nam University will enroll 100 full-time university students according to 3 admission methods:
- Method 1: Use the results of 03 subjects from the high school graduation exam results according to the registered combination for admission consideration.
- Method 2: Use the transcript results, scores of 03 subjects from the 12th grade high school study results according to the registered combination for admission consideration.
