Discussion Corner: The paradox of lack of sunlight in tropical regions and how to use sunscreen properly?

When going out, we use sunscreen or cover ourselves up but do not know that we are lacking sunlight. We use sunscreen regularly but do not know how to choose the right type and how to use it properly. The following article will provide you with knowledge to help us become healthy people and smart consumers.
The paradox of lack of sunlight in tropical countries”
The rate of osteoporosis in women in our country in recent years is very high (accounting for 30% while men account for 12%). The main reason is that the concentration of calcium and vitamin D in the blood is quite low.
In Vietnam, the rate of osteoporosis due to vitamin D deficiency in women is much higher than in men.
Studies on osteoporosis in Vietnamese people show that: In the diet, the amount of calcium absorbed through food is only half the recommended dose. Besides, there is a great lack of vitamin D. More importantly, women aged 20-25 have very low vitamin D levels, especially in big cities like Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Vitamin D from food sources only meets about 1/10 of the need. Sunlight is an abundant and free source of vitamin D. Therefore, vitamin D can be said to be a "heaven-sent vitamin".
Everyone should ask themselves why mothers diligently take care of sunbathing for their children, while they themselves always consider sunscreen an effective means of protecting their skin, not to mention when going out, women cover their entire bodies like ninjas and then forget that they themselves are lacking vitamin D?
How to use sunscreen properly?
Sunscreen is a popular cosmetic used by everyone to protect the skin from the harmful effects of sunlight. However, sunscreen must also be used properly to be effective.
Here are some notes when choosing and using sunscreen:
- Choose the right type, usually SPF 30-50 and PA +++ is fine.
- Ensure origin and quality (scan product barcode to check origin).
- Apply sunscreen 30 minutes before going out in the sun, apply enough amount.
- When you need to stay in the sun for a long time, reapply after 3 hours.
- Remove makeup immediately after going out in the sun.
- Only use sunscreen during peak sunlight hours from 8-9am to 3-4pm.
