“Training for health to develop comprehensively in physical and mental aspects; creating lifelong training habits for students” is the training policy of Dai Nam University. Accordingly, the University constantly innovates the physical education training program; invests in and develops cultural - sports - art clubs for students to exchange and practice. In recent years, the Karate training movement at Dai Nam University (DNU) has developed strongly. The DNU Karate Club is not only a place for students to live and practice in the school but also a “meeting place” for martial arts lovers from Universities, Academies and Colleges in Hanoi to compete and exchange.

Karate – a popular sport at DNU

With the desire to create a dynamic learning environment of “learning while playing, playing while learning” to “stimulate” students’ creativity, in addition to the academic program, Dai Nam University focuses on developing sports activities according to students’ interests and aspirations. In particular, Karate is one of many sports that students love and want to study.

In 2016, DNU Karate Club was established with the aim of creating a healthy playground for students to play and practice; maintain and promote the movement of physical training following the example of President Ho Chi Minh, regularly practice and compete in sports. At the same time, build a united and professional martial arts family for the University's students.

During the training process, martial artists also maximize their creativity, cultivate soft skills, and confidently assert themselves. Lessons on the spirit of warriors in Karate also help young people understand Humanity - Courtesy - Righteousness - Wisdom - Trust in life.

After 6 years of operation, DNU Karate Club has grown in size and number of members. Accordingly, the Club has attracted more than 300 generations of martial arts students to study and practice.

"Fighting arena" of Karate fighters in Hanoi

Mr. Vu Dang Tuan Anh - Secretary of the School Youth Union said: During the training process, students are given the opportunity to attend competitions at universities; participate in major Karate tournaments for students across the country to test their abilities, learn experiences and expand relationships in the Vietnamese martial arts community.

In addition, Dai Nam University also periodically organizes professional training sessions; periodic capacity tests; belt promotion exams for students under the supervision and evaluation of the Hanoi Karate team coach, World Karate referees; participates in competitions, thereby connecting and expanding relationships with experts, martial artists, and coaches of student Karate clubs.

Dai Nam University regularly organizes friendly Karate matches for students.

In addition, the DNU Karate Club also regularly organizes martial arts competitions with Karate Clubs affiliated with Universities, Academies and Colleges in Hanoi. The modern and convenient facilities of the gymnasium - the training place of the DNU Karate Club are qualified to "welcome" Karate teams to compete.

Martial artists are trained and compete in a spacious, comfortable space.

Recently, Dai Nam University organized a Kumite exchange with martial artists from 09 Karate clubs of universities and academies in Hanoi: Military Medical Academy, University of Science and Technology, University of Construction, People's Police Academy, Banking Academy, University of Mining and Geology, University of Economics - VNU, Phenika University, Hanoi University of Economics and Industry.

Strong, decisive blows.

The competition was evaluated and supervised by Master Nguyen Manh Tuan - Coach of Hanoi Karate Team, World Karate Referee; along with experts and coaches from Karate Clubs of Universities and Academies.

Can Thi Thao Nguyen - Head of DNU Karate Club said: "Through the competition sessions, martial artists will evaluate their own abilities and learn from competition experiences; at the same time, the club's management board will discover and select talented athletes to be included in the team to compete in Karate tournaments for students".

Mr. Le Duy Phuong - Karate Club of Military Medical Academy shared: "I am especially impressed with the Karate training place of Dai Nam University students, extremely clean, airy, and also has mirrors installed so that students can see their own training process; from there, adjust the movements to the correct technique..."

Mr. Nguyen Duy Tung - Karate Club of the University of Technology said: "I appreciate the dynamism, professionalism and high determination of DNU martial artists even on the small "arena". We look forward to seeing you again at the upcoming exchanges as well as major tournaments".

Mr. Pham Tuan Anh - Karate Club of the University of Construction also expressed: "Directly competing with DNU students, I understood why you guys progressed so quickly and won many awards at the recent Student Karate Championship.
