DNU Pharmacy students get to “see, touch and ask” during a hands-on internship

In order for students to have a practical view of the industry they are pursuing right from their school days, Dai Nam University always focuses on training associated with practical experience activities. Following that policy, recently, the Department of Botany - Medicinal Materials - Traditional Medicine of the Faculty of Pharmacy of Dai Nam University organized for more than 200 K15 students to experience reality at Biopharm Hoa Binh Joint Stock Company. Here, students are free to observe, interact and exchange, promote their ability to learn and explore to get closer to the practical profession.

Coming to the practical training session, students were introduced to the process of breeding a medicinal plant, including the following steps: Searching for information; Searching for samples; Identification; Preliminary assessment of active ingredients; Selection of breeding method; Breeding; Experimental scale cultivation; Comparative assessment of active ingredients and potency; Completing the cultivation process; Reporting on the protection of scientific and technological product results; Transfer.

In addition, students can also visit Linh Duoc Son medicinal plant conservation garden with a conservation model that follows nature, meaning that based on the natural ecosystem of the forest, medicinal plants are placed in a similar position in nature, creating a medicinal plant forest with many canopy layers. Currently, the conservation garden is preserving more than 50 medicinal species of many different plant families. Notably, all the trees in the conservation area do not have identification signs because the students' desire to "see, touch and ask" is fully developed.

Also during the practical training session, students visited and experienced the Hoa Vang tea garden with more than 500 trees that were ready to be harvested. This plant has been used as medicine for a long time and is considered a valuable medicinal plant for the treatment of malignant tumors, jaundice hepatitis, cirrhosis, urinary tract infections, nephritis, high blood pressure, irregular menstruation, dysentery, and diarrhea. Currently, Biopharm Company is also leading a provincial-level scientific research project on Hoa Vang tea grown in the garden, in which there is close scientific cooperation with scientists from Dai Nam University and the Vietnam Academy of Technology.

The field trip brought a lot of useful knowledge to Dai Nam University students.

The final experience of the students is the tissue culture room, the greenhouse for plant training and the Cordyceps cultivation room. This is where the process of propagating medicinal plants using non-traditional methods is studied to create quality seedlings, thereby meeting the transfer of medicinal plant varieties to partner units.

Through experiential activities, students access practical technology, thereby having a realistic view of the profession they are studying.

To further deepen their knowledge from theory to practice, students do not hesitate to ask questions directly to the company's leadership about issues related to the development and conservation of Vietnamese medicinal gene sources, thereby helping students have the most realistic view of the industry's reality.

Practical internship is always an important content in the training program for Pharmacy students of Dai Nam University, helping students to consolidate more professional knowledge and practice the missing and weak skills, thereby students gradually perfect their personality, work style, have a good sense of organization and discipline and be serious about their future career. Through practical internship activities, Dai Nam University in general and the Faculty of Pharmacy in particular create the premise for students to orient, strive and train to become Pharmacists to meet the requirements of quality human resources not only to serve the recruiting units, but also to be the basic factors leading to the inevitable development of the Pharmacy industry in Vietnam.
