“Dai Nam determines that it must have quality to survive. And the Faculty of Finance - Banking must have quality to compete with other training institutions. Therefore, as a teacher, you must listen a lot, read a lot to absorb knowledge; regularly update the latest information and trends in the profession to improve the quality of lectures”. That is the direction of Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice Principal of Dai Nam University at the Workshop on Current Situation and Solutions to Improve the Quality of Lectures of the Faculty of Finance - Banking, on the morning of June 23, 2021.

Affirming the value and importance of teaching quality in university training activities, the Faculty of Finance and Banking, Dai Nam University held a workshop on "Current situation and solutions to improve lecture quality" on the morning of June 23, 2021.

The workshop was attended by Ms. Cao Thi Hoa – Vice Principal; Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong – Vice Principal; faculty leaders and staff, lecturers of the Faculty of Finance – Banking.

Diversity of active teaching methods at the Faculty of Finance and Banking

Opening the workshop, MSc. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang presented a presentation on teaching methods for the subject of Finance and Banking. Accordingly, the Master stated that, in addition to expertise, it is necessary to focus on innovating teaching methods so that students are proactive, positive and creative in learning. At the same time, using appropriate methods will create interest in learning for students; thereby fostering a love for the Finance and Banking industry.

Sharing specifically about the teaching method, MSc. Nguyen Thi Thu Trang said that she used 3 methods: Group discussion, Presentation and Problem solving. Of which, group discussion and presentation are the frequently used methods. This method not only helps to promote the spirit of teamwork but also creates conditions for students to hone their skills in searching for documents, presenting in front of a crowd, asking questions and debating with each other.

Thanks to the innovation in teaching methods, in the 2020-2021 school year, the results of the Finance and Monetary subject of class TCNH 14.02 have improved significantly. Specifically, the average mid-term exam score is 7.55 (the rate of Excellent is 42.5% and Fair is 32.5%); the average mid-term exam score is 6.81 (the rate of Excellent is 10% and Fair is 47.5%).

At the end of the presentation, Ms. Trang proposed some solutions to overcome limitations and improve the quality of lectures: Organize 1-2 field trips to financial institutions to visit, learn and experience the working environment; Invite experts to teach; Evaluate individual scores in group presentations based on actual contributions; Have a clear reward and punishment mechanism regarding classroom rules and group discussions.

Sharing the same opinion with Ms. Trang, Ms. Tran Thi Lan Phuong also emphasized the need to pay special attention to teaching methods in each lesson. Accordingly, Ms. Lan Phuong proposed 4 methods, including: Lecture; Building situations; Group activities, tablecloths; Role-playing.

Still emphasizing group work and tablecloths; however, instead of letting students choose their own groups, Ms. Lan Phuong requires students to study the lesson content themselves and randomly assign them to groups when in class. This method helps students improve their self-awareness in learning, not relying on group members.

In addition, in each class, the female lecturer will present real-life situations, leading to lessons in “Three Kingdoms” to convey economic knowledge to students. With this method, students can easily absorb the lecture, while also “promoting” the spirit of learning, actively contributing ideas to build the lesson.

Lectures; Scenario building; Group activities, tablecloths; Role-playing are the methods that MSc. Tran Thi Lan Phuong flexibly applies in her lectures.

Also in the discussion, the Faculty of Finance and Banking presented new perspectives on improving the quality of lectures such as: Applying learning games in lectures; Improving the quality of lectures based on understanding student psychology; Effectively applying office 365 software at the Faculty of Finance and Banking.

In the paper “Application of learning games in lectures”, MSc. Le Tuan Anh mentioned two online learning games, Kahoot and Quizizz. In terms of advantages, this method will stir up the classroom atmosphere; create excitement and competition among students; help them remember the lesson content integrated in the game. The disadvantage is that students easily get lost in playing and pay little attention to the learning nature of the game.

With the presentation "Improving the quality of lectures based on understanding student psychology", MSc. Le Quynh Anh affirmed that understanding students' psychology will help teachers choose the appropriate teaching method. According to the Master, it is necessary to promote a pleasant learning environment for students by: Being open, patient, creating positive emotions; Maintaining good interaction, calling students by name, staying after class to answer questions; Creating a sense of success for students; Reducing exam pressure.

The quality of the lecturer's lectures determines the seriousness and interest of students in the learning process.

In the presentation on “Application of office 365 software at the Faculty of Finance and Banking”, Master Bui Xuan Luan shared about the method of effective work management using this application. After this software was applied at the Faculty of Finance and Banking, it increased work efficiency, avoiding the situation of 'forgetting' work. In addition, office 365 software also helps lecturers easily manage, assign assignments... effectively serving the online learning process of students.

The presentation by Master Bui Xuan Luan received high praise from Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong - Vice Principal of Dai Nam University. This is also the lecture that Ms. Thanh Huong 'ordered' to train the staff and lecturers of the whole school.

The method determines the success or failure of the teacher

Highly appreciating the three presentations, Ms. Cao Thi Hoa - Vice Principal of the School affirmed that teaching methods are one of the factors that determine the success of a teacher.

Ms. Hoa shared: “ Dai Nam determines that it must have quality to survive. And the Faculty of Finance and Banking must have quality to compete with other training institutions. Therefore, as a teacher, you must listen a lot, read a lot to absorb knowledge; regularly update the latest information and trends in the profession to improve the quality of lectures.”

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huong - Vice Principal highly appreciated the dedication and investment of the teachers in the teaching process. In addition, Ms. Huong also reminded the lecturers to always update their knowledge, closely follow the practical movements and development of the profession, have flexibility and balance in teaching methods; avoid boredom and outdated information in each lesson.

“Making quality is not too difficult, it depends on people, on each of us lecturers. With the ups and downs that have passed, I think I have the right to expect innovation and strong development of the Faculty of Finance and Banking”, Dr. Le Thi Thanh Huong emphasized.
