The logistics industry is considered a field with great potential for development, especially in the context of the pandemic. Students studying this field across the country are having the opportunity to participate early and directly in activities at businesses in the industry.

Dr. Le Dac Son - Chairman of Dai Nam University Council spoke at the Seminar.

In response to the practical needs of the labor market and businesses, Dai Nam University in collaboration with the Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Development Association (VALOMA) organized a seminar on “ Sharing experiences and methods of organizing training activities associated with practical experience in the logistics industry and supply chain management, international business” on March 26, to support and remove difficulties in training high-quality human resources for the logistics industry in Vietnam.

The Seminar of Dai Nam University gathered leading experts in the field of Logistics.

Assessing the market opportunities for the logistics sector, Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Deputy Director of the Import-Export Department of the Ministry of Industry and Trade, Honorary Chairman of VALOMA emphasized: “The logistics industry is currently developing rapidly. According to preliminary statistics, there are currently 49 universities training in logistics at many different levels. This reflects the social demand for resources, the demand of businesses requiring both quantity and quality. This creates favorable conditions for training institutions to develop this industry”.

Mr. Tran Thanh Hai, Honorary President of Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Development Association VALOMA spoke at the seminar.

The school cooperates with businesses in training

Sharing about the training orientation of Logistics and Supply Chain Management, Dr. Le Thi My Ngoc, Head of Logistics and Supply Chain Management Faculty, Dai Nam University, said that the school has a plan to teach theory combined with practical experience. Through that, students will be able to participate in experiences at businesses through internships.

In addition, students will have practical experience through the largest logistics technology platform in Vietnam, Smartlog software. At the same time, VALOMA hopes to create an ecosystem connecting businesses and schools to optimize the use of human resources and costs in training.

Dr. Le Thi My Ngoc - Head of Logistics and Supply Chain Management Faculty shares the training orientation of Logistics and Supply Chain Management at Dai Nam University.

To support Dai Nam University in solving these problems, Mr. Tran Chi Dung, Head of VALOMA Training Department, presented the VALOMA-COE training model, applying new methods such as problem-based learning, training and certification according to implementation capacity, recognition - design - implementation - operation.

Specifically, the COE model will support facilities for practical activities by sharing existing facilities at some schools and businesses such as Mekong Center, Maritime University (Hai Phong) to practice warehouses for schools in the North, combined with visits to Ports and Logistics Centers in Hai Phong.

In addition, the logistics lab of Hanoi Capital University (Soc Son campus) will provide WMS, TMS practice, combined with a tour of Noi Bai Cargo Terminal. In addition, the lab of Tan Cang - STC Company supports FMS, TOS practice for schools in the South, combined with a tour of Cat Lai port...

The practical sessions at these facilities will be held once a week, with a yearly plan. These practical sessions can be linked to the regular training program or short-term training. Notably, all practical classes are certified.

In addition, the COE model also helps mobilize teaching human resources from the Membership fund and international experts, forming specialized groups such as logistics, SCM and other specialties.

Students need to be fully equipped with skills

As a profession with a lot of potential and development opportunities, however, students also need to have the knowledge to meet the requirements of the profession.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Trinh Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and International Business, Foreign Trade University.

Associate Professor, Dr. Trinh Thi Thu Huong, Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics and International Business, Foreign Trade University, Vice President of VALOMA, commented: “The two years of the pandemic have shown that the role of the Logistics industry is extremely important to the economy. When the Logistics industry develops, we will save costs, attract foreign investment, and increase competition between countries.”

Meanwhile, Vietnam's international logistics and foreign trade sectors are also closely linked. "When Vietnam has a good logistics service sector, we will support businesses in the foreign trade sector and invest abroad. If the transportation service sector develops, we will have great opportunities to develop the economy," Ms. Huong said.

In such a potential context, in order for our human resources to meet the needs, we need to equip them with many skills.

Ms. Cao Cam Linh, Strategy Director, Viettel Post Corporation (Viettel Post), Head of VALOMA Research Department.

Sharing the same view, Ms. Cao Cam Linh, Strategy Director, Viettel Post Corporation (Viettel Post), Head of VALOMA Research Department shared: "We look forward to the graduating generation, students in potential majors in logistics and supply chain management, being equipped with mandatory knowledge related to simulation modeling techniques, supply chain analysis, warehouses and distribution channels".

She further suggested: "For a private university like Dai Nam, starting from the goals of the school's leaders, design "practical" teaching programs so that graduates can "sweep" businesses in the target area. From there, VALOMA can help the school build lectures to serve the output of the group of businesses that the school is aiming for."

Dr. Nguyen Viet Anh - Vice President of Dai Nam University spoke at the discussion.

In addition, experts also give some advice to students when it comes to determining long-term career orientation, passion for work and preparation in advance. Once determined to work in the field of international trade, students are advised to equip themselves with skills such as foreign languages and change management.

In addition, schools need to ensure teaching to students to meet output standards. If schools meet the requirements, students will not have to worry about market demand.

According to experts, in reality, any training program today is based on the determination of the labor market, and is determined by three groups: knowledge standards, skill standards and attitude standards. Students who graduate with all the above skills and standards will certainly meet the strict requirements of the labor market.

Vietnam Logistics Human Resources Development Association (VALOMA) is an organization that brings together universities, colleges, and short-term training institutions nationwide that provide logistics training. In addition, the Association's members also include research organizations and businesses operating in the logistics sector.

The Association has organized many practical activities to connect members and improve professional quality in teaching, application, and logistics business.

As the general State management agency for logistics, the Ministry of Industry and Trade welcomes and accompanies the Association, schools, and enterprises to create a rich and quality logistics human resource to meet the increasing needs of society and the economy.
