Make full use of the time to review for the national high school exam

GD&TĐ - During this time, in addition to working hard to ensure the completion of the program, most high schools across the country have plans to increase periods and sessions, taking advantage of every possible time to equip students with knowledge and psychology before the national high school exam.

Organizing students to have lunch at school, improving the quality of review

To increase review effectiveness, at Phan Thiet High School (Binh Thuan), students living more than 5km away from the school are arranged to stay at school at noon.

According to Principal Luong Dao Quoc Dung, the organization of meals, rest, and management of students staying at school at noon during review time was agreed upon by the school and the Parents' Association at a meeting in early April 2015.

“Currently, about 40% of the total 524 students, including those who live far away and have poor academic performance, are arranged to take a nap and eat lunch at school on afternoon classes. They are arranged a room to rest a little at noon before continuing to review under the supervision of teachers,” said teacher Luong Dao Quoc Dung.

At this time, Phan Thiet High School is arranging 24 morning periods (including 6 periods of Literature, 7 periods of Math, 6 periods of English, 5 periods of the fourth subject) and 8 afternoon periods. The total review time for students is 224 periods.

The school’s professional teams have been assigned to compile review materials according to the Ministry of Education and Training’s guidelines and exam samples. These materials have been printed and distributed to students by the end of April.

Poor students: Break down to review effectively

At Tran Dai Nghia High School (Can Tho), along with requiring teachers to teach according to the program distribution, not to criticize, skip lessons, or skip classes, the school also rotates and consolidates classes in all subjects for grade 12 to ensure the completion of the program by the end of March 2015.

Principal Nguyen Thi Kim Loan said: The school organizes afternoon classes to reinforce knowledge for weak students in Math, English, and Biology from the middle of the first semester until the end of March 2015.

After the end of the program and the second semester exam (in mid-April 2015), the school began organizing for students to review 3 compulsory subjects and 1 elective subject in the mornings. The afternoons were for consolidation, tutoring, and checking lessons for weak students.

In particular, on Saturdays and Monday and Tuesday afternoons, the school separates weak students from each class for review, divides them into groups according to student type, and has guidance from subject teachers.

Students who are too weak in each subject are separated into groups of only 5-10 students to review and consolidate the most basic knowledge to meet the high school graduation score.

The school's review period for the national high school exam will last 9 weeks, from April 20 to June 27, 2015 with 6 periods/subject/week.

Ms. Nguyen Thi Kim Loan said: The school has asked professional groups to develop review plans suitable for the nature of the exams, according to the time, the number of periods allocated to each chapter, section... closely following the knowledge standards, ensuring coverage of the program content, not skipping lessons, not reviewing by heart but focusing on the core knowledge.

Develop a review outline, a system of questions, and practice exercises for students to unify each subject, paying attention to the harmony between testing learning and practicing methods and skills for doing exercises and tests... Pay attention to student groups. Especially weak students must have appropriate review methods to help students grasp basic knowledge and test-taking skills to meet requirements.

Refer to previous years' graduation exams, pay attention to changes in duration to have a reasonable and effective review direction.

In particular, the school builds test sets according to the new test matrix, organizes mock tests for each subject to grasp the learning quality of students and has a timely and reasonable adjustment plan. At the same time, it guides students on test-taking methods to achieve the highest score according to their learning ability.

Note to train students in test-taking skills

At Loc Phat High School (Lam Dong), the review for the national high school exam will last for 8 weeks, from April 24 to June 27, 2015. The school focuses on the review content mainly in the 12th grade program with the requirement: Both reviewing knowledge and helping students get familiar with how to take the exam, ensuring that they meet both the basic requirements for high school graduation and university and college admission.

To train students in test-taking skills, the school requires teachers to solve review questions. For each question, teachers must allocate appropriate time including: Time to review related knowledge, time for students to solve the questions themselves, and time to correct the questions.

During the time students solve the problems themselves, the subject teacher closely follows to guide them. Students should not be left to solve the problems themselves for too long. Teachers need to control time well.

In particular, to help students get used to the test-taking method and teachers and students adjust teaching and learning methods, Loc Phat High School plans to organize 3 trial tests.

1st time, from March 31 to April 6: Students take 8 subjects through the results of the mock test and the second semester exam, to help students choose elective subjects suitable for their abilities; survey students' choice of elective subjects; develop a plan to organize review for students.

2nd time, from May 18 to May 23: Students take compulsory and elective exams. Through the results, students and teachers adjust teaching and learning methods and students' test-taking skills.

3rd time, from June 15 to June 20: Students take compulsory and elective exams. Through the results, teachers practice test-taking skills, pay attention to mistakes students are still having, and prepare themselves mentally to confidently enter the national high school exam.

Organize 4 exam registration periods

At Tran Dai Nghia High School (Can Tho), students are organized 4 registration periods for graduation exams and university and college entrance exams.

Nguyen Thi Kim Loan - Principal of Tran Dai Nghia High School (Can Tho) - said: Since the beginning of December 2014, the school has organized for students to register for exam subjects to classify students and orient their studies.

Then, in early January 2015, the school continued to organize student registration with the purpose of reviewing student registration and guiding students to register for elective subjects according to their subject learning ability.

The final registration period in February 2015 is held for students to self-assess their learning abilities.

The last session in March was held after a meeting with parents of grade 12 students to disseminate regulations on national high school exams and university and college admissions.
