Over time, my love for the profession and my responsibility towards students have grown, fueling and maintaining the flame of passion. The Faculty of Nursing - Dai Nam University is the place to "extend" and continue that love…”

That is the sharing of MSc. Le Van Duy - Acting Dean of Nursing Faculty, Dai Nam University on the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, February 27.

MSc. Le Van Duy - Acting Dean of Nursing Faculty, Dai Nam University.
-Please tell us what brought you to the nursing profession and the Faculty of Nursing - Dai Nam University?

I graduated from Hanoi Medical University, majoring in Pathophysiology - a subject that helps answer questions about the causes and mechanisms of disease in the body; the basis for diagnosing and treating diseases effectively. After that, I spent a long time studying and researching in the Soviet Union. In 1991, I returned to Vietnam and worked at the Department of Science and Training - Ministry of Health. Here, I had the opportunity to work with domestic and international experts to build and develop the "Vietnam Nursing Association". This was the "fate" that brought me to the nursing field.

The more I researched this field, the more interested and passionate I became. Determined to pursue a long-term career in nursing, I applied to study for a bachelor's degree in nursing in Thailand and a master's degree in nursing in the Netherlands to improve my professional skills.

The Faculty of Nursing, Dai Nam University is the place that “extends” and continues my love and desire to dedicate myself to the nursing profession. This is my destiny.

-Nursing is one of the most unique professions. According to you, what criteria do nurses need to satisfy in the 4.0 era?

Nursing is a profession with a high level of humanity, respected by society. In the 4.0 era, nurses must meet the following requirements: ( 1) Good knowledge of nursing science; (2) Solid professional skills; (3) A bright heart, knowing how to love the sick, fighting with the sick and their families against illness, regaining life and health for people .

-It is known that nursing training requires a lot of practice. At the Faculty of Nursing, Dai Nam University, how is the practice implemented, sir?

According to the research results of the Department of Science, Technology and Training; Vietnam Nursing Association in 2015, for every 4 nurses graduating, only 1 nurse has a job opportunity. The reason is said by experts that "learning does not go hand in hand with practice", causing many nursing students to be "bewildered" and unable to keep up with the job when graduating.

Practice during the learning process is very important, helping students grasp knowledge firmly, not be surprised when doing internships and quickly catch up with work when graduating. Professional skills of nurses must be formed through a practice process, step by step guiding right from the time they are still in the classroom. Teachers guide students from simple to complex techniques at the school's skill practice facilities to reach a certain level. Then students continue studying at hospitals to directly care for patients under the direct guidance of teachers at the hospital.

At the Faculty of Nursing, Dai Nam University, students' practice and internship time accounts for 2/3 of the total study time, which means that one theory period will have three practice periods. To help students practice well, the school is developing a practice facility with full modern equipment, models, tools like hospitals and a team of good teachers so that students have enough conditions to learn nursing skills at the school.

In particular, students also have the opportunity to practice at major central hospitals. In addition, students of the Nursing Faculty, Dai Nam University also have the opportunity to study Japanese for free and have the opportunity to receive scholarships to study abroad in Japan if they have excellent achievements.

This is a new approach, in line with the current trend when the demand for nursing in many countries, especially in developed countries such as Japan, Korea, Germany...

-Can you share a little about the development strategy of the Faculty of Nursing - Dai Nam University in the coming time?

The development strategy of the Faculty of Nursing is part of the overall development strategy of the University. Specifically, in the coming time, the Faculty of Nursing will focus on innovating and improving the quality of training according to ASEAN standards, specifically Thailand. The training program has been innovated according to Thai standards and has been approved and issued by the University's Board of Directors. Currently, the Faculty of Nursing is updating the training programs according to the standard program. Next will be the development of textbooks, learning materials, and training of teachers on teaching methods and student assessment. Focus on practical learning for students at Skillslab (skills lab), striving for Dai Nam University to become a prestigious address in training nursing human resources in Vietnam. The Faculty of Nursing is promoting joint training activities on nursing care with Japanese partners to establish output for students after graduation.

-On the occasion of Vietnamese Doctors' Day, February 27, do you have any message for nursing students - the future nurses of the country?

Nursing is a very hard but also very noble profession. I hope you will love your job, be committed and have compassion for your patients. Be proactive in your studies, connect with your teachers to learn anywhere and anytime.

Thank you very much for sharing!

Nursing is one of the special professions that requires a high level of “learning while doing”. Realizing the importance of practice in nursing training, Dr. Le Dac Son - Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dai Nam University, specifically directed the Faculty of Nursing to continuously review and change the training program; combine training with practice, learning while doing… to help students fully equip themselves with professional knowledge as well as practical career experience, creating a successful and sustainable future.

Currently, Dai Nam University is cooperating with Japanese nursing homes to train and employ Vietnamese nursing staff to practice at nursing homes during their studies. In addition, Dai Nam University also organizes free Japanese language training for students of the Nursing Faculty.

In the near future, to help students better respond to work and keep up with the world's development trends, Dai Nam University will equip more 3D and 4D models, and open more clinics so that students have more opportunities for direct practice.
