DNU - Pioneer university in teaching soft skills to students
Since its inception (2007), Dai Nam University has focused on soft skills training for students. With experience in recruitment and human resource management as the general director of a large joint stock bank, Dr. Le Dac Son - Chairman of the Board of Directors has applied the "hard-earned" lessons in human resource recruitment of enterprises in general and banks in particular to the training program.

Since its inception (2007), Dai Nam University has focused on training soft skills for students.
Dr. Le Dac Son pointed out that, in addition to professional knowledge, businesses are very interested in soft skills, teamwork skills and life attitudes of employees. Soft skills have become one of the important recruitment criteria of businesses. Meanwhile, university education in Vietnam is too focused on training hard skills. This is the reason why graduates cannot find jobs and take too much time to integrate and adapt to the recruitment requirements of businesses.
“Professional knowledge, information technology, foreign languages and soft skills are factors that students need to be good at to ensure that after graduation they can find a job and develop well in the business,” Dr. Le Dac Son emphasized.
Realizing the importance of soft skills training for students, the Board of Directors of Dai Nam University has assigned the Faculty of Business Administration to develop and apply the teaching of Soft Skills through practical and useful experiential activities of the "Soft Skills Training Camp" .
“Universities have the responsibility to help students fill the gap in soft skills. Soft skills learned in university will become an important premise for forming working skills and life skills to help students build a solid career in the future…”, Dr. Le Dac Son shared.

Dai Nam University is one of the few pioneering universities in teaching soft skills to students.
While soft skills teaching is very popular and widespread in the world, in Vietnam, the concept of soft skills is still quite new, especially the inclusion of soft skills as a main subject is still very limited. Dai Nam University is one of the few pioneering universities in teaching soft skills to students.
“ The day we invited lecturers to teach soft skills, many people were still confused about this concept. What are soft skills? Are soft skills communication skills, presentation skills or negotiation skills?... And Dai Nam University is one of the first universities in the country to make soft skills a core subject”, said MSc. Pham Van Minh - Head of the Faculty of Business Administration, Department of Soft Skills - Dai Nam University.
Teaching soft skills from the smallest things
Following the direction of Dr. Le Dac Son: "Teach students soft skills and ethics from the simplest things in daily life", the Soft Skills Department has decided to include teaching content about ethics and greeting culture in the curriculum.

The image of students lining up to bow made an impression at Dai Nam University.
Things that seem simple and trivial in life, such as: saying goodbye when leaving and saying goodbye when returning; knowing how to invite elders to dinner… are what every family desires because modern life is suffering from a “ greeting crisis”, especially among young people.
“Vietnamese people are naturally sociable but shy. Practicing greetings will help young people overcome their own barriers, eliminate shyness and embarrassment, and form good communication and behavioral habits in life…”, Master Pham Van Minh shared about teaching greeting skills to students in the Soft Skills 2 program of Dai Nam University.
" The first impression of anyone when coming to Dai Nam University is the image of students in orange uniforms lining up in two rows, bowing politely and respectfully. In fact , after experiencing the Soft Skills 2 program, the communication and behavioral skills of students in the school have improved a lot. This is demonstrated through the politeness of students towards teachers, their attitudes towards each other and the use of behavioral language in the school environment is also much better..." said Master. Minh.
The Soft Skills 2 program focuses on teaching communication, presentation and teamwork skills. In particular, the content of teaching communication skills helps learners understand the importance of communication; know how to communicate, behave and the factors for successful communication and behavior; how to use verbal and non-verbal communication to achieve the best results... It is known that soft skills have been taught by Dai Nam University since course 9 (school year 2015-2016). Up to now, the Soft Skills program has been taught for 3 school years and has achieved many successes. Currently, the Soft Skills Department of the University is continuing to build and perfect the training program framework, update the content and teaching methods of new and modern soft skills to help students best equip themselves with the necessary skills to enrich their life. |
