What is different about studying Medicine at Dai Nam University compared to other schools? The following article will help you answer this question, and at the same time provide you with an overall and objective view of the Medicine major at DNU, thereby helping you make the right choice, the most suitable for you.

Medicine is always the major that attracts the top attention of excellent, dynamic and talented students in every university admission season.

Dai Nam University is a multidisciplinary university that has been training in the Health Sector (Pharmacy and Nursing) for 15 years. In 2019, Dai Nam University was authorized by the Ministry of Education and Training to train in Medicine. When developing the program and organizing training in Medicine, Dai Nam University focuses on the following differences:

Priority is given to English training with a budget 4 times higher than other industries.

The training program of Dai Nam University of Medicine is built according to CDIO, based on the medical doctor competency standards issued by the Ministry of Health.

Identifying English as a competitive “weapon” for students after graduation, Dai Nam University has invested heavily in English training for medical students (training costs are 4 times higher than other majors).

Specifically, students are tested for English proficiency upon entry and divided into classes according to their level. The training program not only ensures that students pass the English output standard but also receive advanced English training for future study, research and work.

The training program is designed to enhance the experience and application for students.

Dai Nam Medical students practice with modern equipment right at school.

Solid basic knowledge will be very convenient for students when studying specialized subjects later, especially clinical applications. The basic knowledge subjects are basically no different from other schools, but the content of the subjects of the Faculty of Medicine focuses on applications and situations for students to apply basic knowledge to interpret the results of paraclinical tests. In particular, students of the General Medicine major at Dai Nam University have early access to paraclinical techniques, such as: Electrocardiography, Electroencephalography, Respiratory function measurement, Electromyography, Analysis of blood biochemistry results, Blood bacteria, etc.

- Preclinical study: Dai Nam University has a Preclinical center with many models and equipment to ensure that students can fully practice clinical skills before doing internships at the hospital.

Learn clinical skills and ensure proficiency before going into clinical practice at the hospital.

- Clinical study: Competency standards for general practitioners after graduation are to be able to diagnose and differentiate common diseases (according to the international classification of diseases ICD10). The medical training program is designed with 198 credits (not including Physical Education, National Defense and Security Education). The program is built with 155 credits of professional education knowledge, of which the knowledge block by industry group is 8 credits, the knowledge block by industry and supplementary is 147 credits (the core modules of the medical industry are internal medicine, surgery, obstetrics and gynecology and pediatrics account for 79 credits).

Central and Hanoi City Joint Practice Hospital System

Dai Nam University Medical students will study clinically at leading hospitals in Vietnam, such as: Viet Duc Hospital, National Children's Hospital, National Maternity Hospital, Bach Mai Hospital, Hanoi Heart Hospital, Xanh-Pon Hospital, Central Psychiatric Hospital, Ha Dong General Hospital, Thanh Nhan Hospital... Students will have access to the most advanced and modern medical techniques and methods of diagnosis and treatment.

Students are "stationed" at hospitals, attending clinical classes all day and working nights like real doctors.

The biggest difference of the Medical Department at Dai Nam University is the training organization. Currently, medical students only study clinical courses in the morning at the hospital, the time spent in contact with patients is very little, so there are not many opportunities to practice clinical skills. Therefore, at Dai Nam University, when studying clinical subjects (from the second semester of the third year), after studying theory at school, medical students will go to "camp" at hospitals, attend clinical courses both in the morning and afternoon (not to mention night shift at least 01 session/week).

In addition, students will also participate in scientific research with teachers from the first years of the course.

Diverse extracurricular activities

Dai Nam University is the university with the most diverse and abundant movement activities in the North.

In the general knowledge section, in addition to the subjects prescribed by the Ministry of Education and Training, the Faculty of Medicine of Dai Nam University builds courses to provide students with the knowledge and skills necessary for future practice, such as: General Law (students learn about Laws related to the medical industry such as the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, the Law on Health Insurance), Soft Skills, etc.

Students are able to participate in many extracurricular activities and volunteer activities of the school, such as: participating in disease prevention when being recruited, volunteering to examine and treat patients in difficult areas, charity cakes, donating blood... Through these experiences, medical students of Dai Nam University have more opportunities to experience reality and cultivate professional attitudes and ethics.
